How do you integrate an extensive architecture of ICT systems to make a secure intranet? Enterprises (and large SME's) usually need a unified platform for their employees to communicate, collaborate, and publish information. These systems need to be tied together by some level of identity management to facilitate single sign-on, centralized role-based access control, and similar.
What are the architectural decisions to be made in such systems and why would we even go through all this trouble (hint, privacy and data ownership).
